WHOIS Automation FAQ

What is WHOIS automation?

WHOIS automation allows you to set up and manage WHOIS records for your Xenyth IP ranges directly through the dashboard. This feature enables you to name, describe, and assign your IP ranges to Regional Internet Registry (RIR) organizations you have access to. Note that this feature is not supported for all types of IP ranges.

How do I set up WHOIS for my IP ranges?

To configure WHOIS for your IP ranges:

  1. Log in to your Xenyth Cloud dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the "Ranges" section under your account settings.
  3. Select the IP range you want to configure.
  4. Under the range settings, locate the Range WHOIS settings.
  5. Enter the required details, such as the netname and description.
  6. (Optionally) Assign the range to an RIR organization you have access to.
  7. Save your changes.

What are the requirements for netname and description?

  • Netname: Must be alphanumeric, using only letters, numbers, dashes (-), and underscores (_). Limited to 32 characters.
  • Description: Can include alphanumeric characters, dashes, underscores, and spaces. Limited to 128 characters.

How are RIR organizations verified?

RIR organizations (ORGs) must exist before assignment. Xenyth's ORG Verification is automatic, and can be done by name, email, or manually.

Is WHOIS automation supported for all IP range types?

No, this feature is not supported for all types of IP ranges. Please check the dashboard or contact support for details on supported ranges.

It doesn't do what I need!

If you encounter any issues or need assistance with specific RIR requirements, please open a support ticket from your dashboard.

RIPE RANGE PREREQUISITES and FAQ:

RIPE requires a MNT-REF (maintainer reference) on the organization, linked to our maintainer "GOCODEIT-AUTO-MNT".

How do I handle IP ranges in RIPE?

In RIPE, after allocating the parent range to your ORG, you must delete the IRR (Internet Routing Registry) entry from the dashboard. Then, only use the Xenyth dashboard to set up RPKI (Resource Public Key Infrastructure) and create IRRs directly in the RIPE database.

What RIPE MNTER is used?

We use your ADMIN-C (administrative contact) maintainer for MNT-LOWER (lower-level maintenance) and MNT-ROUTES (routing maintenance).
